1993 - 2001: 9 YEARS OF EMOTIONS

From just joking around to reality, in antithesis at the tournament seven of Udine failed for lack of registrations, the first week end of June of 1993. On the of the Camping Pino Marez of Riviera Lignano, three teams from the team Rugby Udine face off, the champions of the student tournament udinese,” the Copernico” and a team of the beach goers from the Lignano Riviera.

The success of the demonstration was above all expectations, so much so as to be requested for the organization of another more official, with actual teams. And so, the first week end of July, always at the same beach, the first Beach Rugby of Lignano Riviera was inaugurated.

The teams participants are regional, Venetian, Lombardia, Tuscans with a foreign representation: the Celtic Vienna (Austria), the Dragonses of Lubiana and the Golovec (Slovenia).
Mogliano Veneto beat the Rugby Udine squad in sudden death after the two regulation times finished at 4 to 4.

1994

The following year we saw an increase: from eight teams to twelve; the Irishmen of the Monkstown Dublin (IRL) are added. Winner still Mogliano Veneto, although this time defeated in the finals by Feltre .

1995

The breakthrough happens with the third edition: illustrious guests as the provincial trustees of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia and the President of the Committee Triveneto Rugby gives an official prominence to the rugbistico world. The Community of Lignano Sabbiadoro in recognition of the meeting by patronizing it, making the tournament officially present in the Liganesi summer events thanks to Alderman of Forster Sport. In the final St. Donà imposes enthusiastically on Belluno during the game. A novelty in exclusive of the Rugby & Beach of Lignano is the presence of the female teams. Rugby is also female and on the Friulana beach one could not help notice the players of the Benetton Treviso, Petrarca Padova, Rho Milano and Coast of the Brenta (VE).
The trophy is won by the Trevisani Benetton Red Panther.

1996

To identify itself, and not to be confused with other meetings, the Lignanes tournament takes the name”Rugby & Beach”, synonymous with games of rugby and fun on the beach. Teams such as the Benetton Treviso (introducing themselves as the Crocodile Team), the Lafert San Donà, the Rovigo, the Belluno, the Lubiana and others, are constantly present to justify the by now prestigious tournament, unique at certain levels in the panorama of Italian beaches in summer.
The final sees an upper hand by Rovigo on St. Donà. The Red Panthers again win the female trophy.

1997

This is the year in which the boys of the Padua Beach emerge landing almost by chance on the beach of Lignano. The beach rugby is evolving and a lot of other Italian beaches are expressing an interest for beach tournaments. The Sport Gazette published an article mentioning the meeting of beach rugby in Genoa also mentioning the tournament of Lignano as the representative of beach rugby, more important rugby Italia. They’ve begun making contacts with organizers in liguri. Giancarlo Stocco for Lignano and Gabriele Remaggi for Genoa promoting a reunion in Cervia where they will bring forward the Italian organizers that will promote subsequently the Italian Beach Rugby League and the Italian championship unifying the rules of the various tournaments.
The tournament of Lignano is won by Padua Beach in the final against St. Donà.
The women is again won by the Red Panthers.

1998

Year of the first Italian Championship of Beach Rugby conceptualized, and organized by the Italian Beach Rugby League. Lignano Riviera hosts one of the Italian Championship events won by the Padua Beach in the month of June. The first week-end of August Lignano hosts the Master Finale of the Championship. The Community and A.P.T. decide that now the meeting move to Lignano Sabbiadoro inside the Beach Arena: seating of 3.000. With an unexpected success as the public rushes to see the new novelty of beach rugby, reaching for the first time a presence of 2,500 for a game of Beach Rugby.
The Facoceris Roma beat in the final the Padua Beach and aree the first Champions of Italy in Beach Rugby.

1999

Transferred to Lignano Sabbiadoro, the organization finds optimal collaboration with the Camping Sabbiadoro where all the teams are to be hosted during the Italian Championship events. From here begins the return of Padua Beach which win the Friulani event in the final with Ass. Rugby Udine, entering the Master Finale and winning the tricolor trophy beating the Gladiatorial Rome in the final at Cervia.

2000

The Administration for the Community of Lignano and the Tourist Promotion Agency of Lignano and the lagoon of Marano retake the final trophy on the Friulana Beach. The Forum Iulii Rugby Club organization in collaboration the Camping Sabbiadoro again organize the Master Finale at the Beach Arena, by now the official stadium of the Beach Rugby Friulana. Before a packed house the Gladiatori Rome are again able to regain the trophy at the exspense of the Amatori Catania.
The Padua Beach win in the final taking third place against the Cingiale di Rubano.

2001

The beginning of the millennium marks for the beach rugby lignanese an international spotlight. Besides Italian Championship, won by the know affectionately known Padua Beach, the Forum Iulii Rugby Club, with a continuing collaboration and always with the Administration of the Commune and the Agency of Tourist Promotion and the Camping Sabbiadoro, have made the once dream of Beach Rugby, a reality for the past few years: the B+B INTERNATIONAL BEACH RUGBY CUP. The first international meeting exclusively of Beach Rugby with the Pie Man London (England), Wien Selection (Austria), Emona R.K. Lubiana (Slovenia), Zagreb R.K. (Croazia) and an Italian formation in the Padua Beach prepared for the international. Is the consecration of the Beach Arena for the beach European rugby. From the U.K. we have the television production of Trans World Sport and World of Rugby which transmit all over the world images of the matches. The magazine Rugby World published an article giving prominence to the demonstration. The show is thrilling and the public is estatic from the games and from the national hymns that follow for the entire day.
The Padua Beach is awarded the first edition international beating all the foreign entities.
